If the name didn’t totally give it away, here’s what’s happening: Stephen Colbert is essentially beating S.S. Coachella to the punch by creating his own spin-off festival a la boat. It may sound like a joke (and Coachella marketing execs may wish it was), but based on what we’ve seen of the lineup, it’s destined to be quite the real deal.

Colbert is pulling this off beautifully. On his show, he announced the festival, headliners, venue, and directed viewers to his website for more information on the apparently free tickets to board the USS Intrepid for the night of August 10. The frenzy that is sure to follow in these next ten days will play out exactly how the folks at The Colbert Report imagined it.

There is sure to be something for everyone that can can make it out to the nautical party next week. Headliners include Santigold, Grizzly Bear, Grandmaster Flash, The Flaming Lips, and Fun. So yeah, it looks like he’s really doing this!

If you’re going to be in New York on August 10th, be sure to check on the ticket availability — they’re keeping us on their toes by releasing information little by little. According to the website, we’ll know more about ticketing later today.
