Men, ladies, boys and girls: I don’t care what you think you like, you have a crush on Annie Clark of St. Vincent. I say this because it’s impossible not to have a crush on Annie Clark of St. Vincent. She’s from Dallas (she went to Lake Highlands High School), she can shred better than anyone you know, she puts on a menacing live show yet gives sweet and personable interviews. Oh, and she’s drop-dead gorgeous. Is there anything else you need to know?
In case you’ve somehow overlooked this driving force in the indie-rock scene, just see what you’ve been missing. Get to know Clark as fashion giant Madewell’s “Musical Muse:”
Somehow Annie Clark has commanded the focus of the public to her music, a feat that not every female musician is able to fully accomplish. After a brief stint recording in New York, her real start came when she was in the Polyphonic Spree, which led her to play in Sufjan Stevens’ band. While she’s undeniably adorable, her greatest accomplishments are not her saucer-wide eyes, but her three solo albums, Marry Me (2007), Actor (2009), and Strange Mercy (2011). If “Cruel” isn’t stuck in your head yet, change that:
Most recently, St. Vincent has garnered deserved attention for her collaboration album with David Byrne, entitled Love This Giant. While the album is due out early September, we’ve been wearing out the first single, “Who.” Yesterday, the pair released the second single, “Weekend in the Dust,” available to stream on the album’s website.
St. Vincent and David Byrne have announced a national tour together, with stops in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Take your pick and get to one of these shows, especially if you missed June’s KXT Summer Cut Festival, where she played after Fitz & The Tantrums and before the Flaming Lips.
If all of this isn’t enough to tide you over, watch this and don’t melt:
