There could be a myriad of reasons as to why Steven Morrissey was recently photographed with a cat perched atop his head — but as for this time, all credit goes to PETA. Famously pro-animal rights, Morrissey is simply trying to prove a point.

In his print ad for PETA, the former Smiths frontman and a feline friend encourage spaying and neutering cats and dogs to prevent homeless animals. He released a statement accompanying the ad:
“Despite the fact that they’re incredibly intelligent, animals unfortunately haven’t yet worked out how to slip on a rubber, which is why thousands of them are being put to sleep in overcrowded shelters and thousands more are desperately waiting to be adopted. Letting cats or dogs have litters is tantamount to shooting shelter animals in the head since it kills their chances of adoption. Please do the right thing and spay or neuter your animals.”
Morrissey makes a straightforward and logical campaign for something he truly believes in — a refreshing approach. He is sure to reach many audiences on his worldwide tour (which stops in Wichita Falls in September).
