For those of you who have not yet heard of Canadian artist Slim Twig (and that will probably be a majority of you), now is your chance to witness something truly special.

A refreshing mix of indie psych rock and 50s/60s retro pop (in both sound and style), Slim Twig’s newly announced, upcoming album Sof’ Sike is a perfect fit for a summer getaway, when all you wanna do is bop around on the beach.

Slim Twig: Indie Rock Meets Retro Pop

One of the singles from Sof’ Sike, “Priscilla,” will immediately blast you back to the top of the 60s when Elvis-era music reigned supreme, right down to the jumping, psychedelic organ providing the driving force of the track.

And you have to admire him for the video, a one-shot, consistent zoom-out showing him atop a throne surrounded by stoic admirers. An indie artist’s gotta do what an indie artist’s gotta do to get the job done.

And doesn’t he look a bit like Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite? Vote for Slim Twig, y’all.

All jesting aside, I really dig his retro/mod voice, especially in 2012 when voices like that are rare. His newest single released today, “I’ll Always Be A Child,” shows him jamming out keyboard-style in his coiffed hair and bright pink collared shirt with rolled up sleeves.

He’s also a big fan of releasing 7″ and 12″ vinyls, where a majority of his music resides. Word is he’s releasing two albums this year, Sof’ Sike being one of them.

Dude’s got ambition. Give him a chance! Just a few listens and you’ll grow to love him.
