When Jim James talks, people listen. Lately, he’s had more than enough to talk about with The Forecastle Festival coming up this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, the hometown to his band My Morning Jacket. And rightly so. Not only do MMJ get to play their beloved hometown, but they helped curate the lineup of the 10th annual three-day festival.

Forecastle Festival has more than just your standard festival fare. Not that there’s anything wrong with plain music and art — that’s a tried-and-true recipe for success. Forecastle has managed to throw in activism, sustainability, living art, and plenty more eccentricities under a blanket nautical theme.

Don’t let all the fun stuff distract you from the music, though. When Spin asked Jim James to name which acts he’s excited for, he described it as “endless. I’m almost afraid to name names because I’ll forget somebody, there’s so many people playing.”

It’s true. The hearty lineup almost speaks for itself. It seems like everyone on the festival circuit is making sure to stop in Louisville this summer: Bassnectar, Sleigh Bells, Atmosphere, Flying Lotus, The Head and the Heart, Abigail Washburn, My Morning Jacket (duh), Girl Talk, Andrew Bird, Dr. Dog, Future Birds, Julia Nunes, Wilco, Neko Case, Deer Tick, Fruit Bats, and a ton more will be there.

“We have just tons and tons of friends that are going to be playing,” James said. “It’s going to be surreal to have so many bands that we love right here in our backyard.”

Looks like Jim James and My Morning Jacket know how to throw a party. Even the lineup announcement video was fun. Should be a great weekend, let us know if you’re going!
