George Lewis Jr., who performs under the stage name Twin Shadow, is sharing his new album Confess today, a week before it drops. The Brooklyn-based, R&B-meets-new-wave-pop artist made a name for himself with his debut album Forget from 2010. Since then, he’s been touring and playing the festival circuit, but still found time to make his sophomore release.
Lewis was born in the Dominican Republic, raised in Florida, then moved to Brooklyn, where his tunes as Twin Shadow got the attention of Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor. Taylor produced Forget and released it on his label Terrible Records.
Confess holds true to the standard that Forget set. There’s no denying the smoothness of Lewis’ voice, naturally prone to the flow of R&B. But the beat of his songs will have you nodding your head and tapping your toes rather than laying back and feeling the groove — they’re just the right amount of poppy without becoming dancey… if that makes sense.
Why don’t you just take a listen for yourself right now on Urban Outfitters radio? See if you can come up with a better description. We’d love to hear it!
