I knew it was going to be a good/bad show when…
I reviewed the Phuss’ last EP this past summer. I remember thinking they sounded like they’d be great live; I was correct.
On a scale of ___________ to ____________… I give it a ____________:
On a scale of Sabbath to Slayer, I give them a Misfits
General Notes:
They’re loud. They’re inventive. They’re hard, and sometimes heavy. Are the Phuss metal? Are they punk? Are they indie? Our suggestion to anyone pondering these questions is to stop wondering and just enjoy. This energetic Denton trio have been making a name for themselves in the local hard rock scene of late, and they deserve the accolades. The Phuss often get booked on metal bills, as was the case at Saturday night’s Abbey Underground showcase, and although they stand out from the pack, this band is hard enough to please the pickiest mosher metalhead, but they have a certain uncommonn finesse to their sound. We happily headbanged along to a set where the only bad part was, it ended too soon.
